Places I Call Home
Art has been something that I have been interested in my entire life. I started to really appreciate art once I got into my teenage years and have been practicing it ever since then. I have dabbled in a multitude of mediums, but my favorite ways to express my artwork are through digital illustrations as well as oil paintings and charcoal drawings.
The pieces I create tend to have an oddity about them because I enjoy that individuals have to think a little bit longer on what they are looking at when viewing my art. My dad has always talked about how I see the world in a different way, and I like to bring that world to life through my artwork. I am typically drawn to shadows and the way that light hits objects, but I have also found myself illustrating and painting special places that I have grown to call home over the last twenty-one years of my life.
My favorite series that I have created is an oil painting triptych of doors titled “Places I Call Home” which is why I expanded on that theme for this show by adding some digital illustrations. I find comfort and joy in these scenes and there is something special about them as well as the people that reside within that allows me to call them home. I want to remind others of the comfort of home and show them the world that I live in every day. The beauty within the homes we create and the places we grow up is something that we get accustomed to and forget to appreciate. So, I wanted to showcase some of my favorite parts of these places that I call home as a nudge for others to appreciate where they come from, where they are, and where they might end up.
